Most, if not all private insurance plans in Oklahoma currently do not cover other autism treatments, such as Applied Behavioral Analysis, DIR/Floortime, or Relationship Development Intervention. Although the latest autism management and care standards from the American Academy of Pediatrics advise parents to provide autism treatment services for children with autism, the insurance industry has not offered an explanation for the exclusion of these treatments from current policies.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma indicated in 2008 that they will add an autism treatment benefit to group policies in 2010, but to date has not issued any further clarification. To see a related news article, click here.
