Post Secondary Education and Employment

Post secondary education and employment planning should be included in secondary transition planning. Resources for students and families considering post secondary education and employment options are listed below.

DDSD
The Oklahoma Developmental Disabilities Services Division offers services to adults with autism who also meet the criteria for mental retardation. These adult and community services include sheltered workshop employment and community integrated employment. For more information, click here.

DRS
The Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services offers employment assistance programs for adults with disabilities.

OK-AHEAD
The Oklahoma Association on Higher Education and Disability (OK-AHEAD) is a chapter of the national Association on Higher Education and Disability. Its mission is to further full participation for individuals with disabilities in Oklahoma post-secondary education. OK-AHEAD offers scholarships and other scholarship information to students and a handbook with information for students with disabilities.

College Living Experience
The College Living Experience is a national program helping students with special needs experience independence and transition into a life full of opportunity. There are five locations with several college and universities participating. For more information, click here.

College Internship Program
The College Internship Program is a national program providing individualized supports for students with learning disabilities. Four program sites offer specialized curriculum, including individuals with Asperger's and high-functioning autism. For more information, click here.
